Fasting

New Beginnings Twenty One Day Fast Prayer Guide

Isaiah 58

5 Is such a fast as yours what I have chosen, a day for a man to humble himself with sorrow in his soul? [Is true fasting merely mechanical?] Is it only to bow down his head like a bulrush and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him [to indicate a condition of heart that he does not have]? Will you call this a fast and an acceptable day to the Lord?

6[Rather] is not this the fast that I have chosen: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every [enslaving] yoke?(B)

7Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house--when you see the naked, that you cover him, and that you hide not yourself from [the needs of] your own flesh and blood?

8Then shall your light break forth like the morning, and your healing (your restoration and the power of a new life) shall spring forth speedily; your righteousness (your rightness, your justice, and your right relationship with God) shall go before you [conducting you to peace and prosperity], and the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.(C)

Day One: Psalm 139:23 (King James Version)

23Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:

Today ask the Lord to search your heart in a mighty way. Ask him to reveal that which is lacking in your walk with him.

Day Two:  Hebrews

4:13

 (Amplified Bible)

13And not a creature exists that is concealed from His sight, but all things are open and exposed, naked and defenseless to the eyes of Him with Whom we have to do.

Today ask the Lord to reveal and bring to light any darkness in your life. Hidden things such as regrets, bitterness, unforgiveness, resentments, things that you feel shameful of, unnecessary guilt and any generational curses that might have me bound. Once he has revealed these things to you plead the Blood of Jesus over them and ask Jesus to close the door on these things in your life.

Day Three: Galatians 5:21-23 (Amplified Bible)

22But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence within accomplishes] is love, joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness,

23Gentleness (meekness, humility), self-control (self-restraint, continence). Against such things there is no law [[a]that can bring a charge].

Today ask the Lord to reveal any character defects in your life that does not line up with the fruits of the spirit. Ask him to bring forth the fruit of the spirit in your life.

Day Four: Matthew 17:20-22 (Amplified Bible)

20He said to them, Because of the littleness of your faith [that is, your lack of [a]firmly relying trust]. For truly I say to you, if you have faith [[b]that is living] like a grain of mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, Move from here to yonder place, and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.

21[c]But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.

Ask the Lord today to allow you to have spiritual faith and power to unleash into you the faith to move mountains and the power to cast out demons and speak to your circumstances and they be moved and removed.

Day Five: Habakkuk 2

1I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.

2And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

3For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

Ask the Lord today to give you dreams and visions for the future to show you your purpose and to make you a visionary. Determine today that I am going to pursue my dreams and visions and do all the steps necessary to get to the determined end that Christ intends for me to reach.

Day Six: Isaiah 26:3 (Amplified Bible)

3You will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace whose mind [both its inclination and its character] is stayed on You, because he commits himself to You, leans on You, and hopes confidently in You.

Ask the Lord today to give you perfect peace in your mind, your endeavors and your circumstances.

Day Seven: Proverbs 6

2Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth

Proverbs 18:20-22 (Amplified Bible)

20A man's [moral] self shall be filled with the fruit of his mouth; and with the consequence of his words he must be satisfied [whether good or evil].

21Death and life are in the power of the tongue and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life]

Today ask the Lord to change your confession of yourself and of others. Ask him to give a confession that lines up with his Word and one that speaks life and not death.

Day Eight: 1 Chronicles 4:9-11 (King James Version)

10And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

3 John (Amplified Bible)

2Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in every way and [that your body] may keep well, even as [I know] your soul keeps well and prospers.

Ask the Lord today to bless and prosper you in all your endeavors. This includes your finances, your influence on others, your health, and your testimony and influence on others.

Day Nine:  1 Corinthians 15:9-11 (Amplified Bible)

10But by the grace (the unmerited favor and blessing) of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not [found to be] for nothing (fruitless and without effect). In fact, I worked harder than all of them [the apostles], though it was not really I, but the grace (the unmerited favor and blessing) of God which was with me.

Ask the Lord today to give you divine favor in all you do from this day forward. Asking him to elevate you in all things; placing you with the right people in the right place doing the right things.

Day Ten:  Romans 8:36-38 (Amplified Bible)

37Yet amid all these things we are more than conquerors and gain a surpassing victory through Him Who loved us.

                Isaiah 58:5-7 (Amplified Bible)

6[Rather] is not this the fast that I have chosen: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every [enslaving] yoke?(

Ask the Lord today to give you a breakthrough. To set free those things that are holding you back from victory, those things that have you bound and to knock down the walls and barriers that satan has placed in your path.

Day Eleven: Ezekiel 16:49-50 (King James Version)

49Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.

50And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good.

Ask the Lord today to take gluttony out of your life. Looking at this passage we see part of

Sodom’s problems was there fullness of food which led to an abundance of idleness. Pray today that we would dethrone “king stomach” in order that we would not be idle for the Lord and that we would strengthen the poor and the needy.

Day Twelve: 2 Kings 2:8-10 (King James Version)

8And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground.

9And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.

10And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.

Today ask the Lord for a double portion of his spirit. That he would flood you with his spirit, his power and his wisdom.

Day Thirteen: Matthew 16:16-18 (King James Version)

16And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

17And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

18And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Daniel

2:22

 (Amplified Bible)

22He reveals the deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with Him!(A)

Today ask the Lord to give you a revelation of himself. Ask him to reveal himself in a mighty way that you would know him in a way that you have never known him. That you would have more knowledge and wisdom of him than you have ever had before.

Day Fourteen: Acts 2:46-47 (King James Version)

46And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,

47Praising God, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

Ephesians 6:16-18 (King James Version)

16Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

17And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

 18Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Ask the Lord today to give us a healthy church one that add souls to the kingdom daily, one that would dwell in unity and one that would be able to stand against the enemies darts that he will continue to throw at us.

Day Fifteen:Proverbs 29:18
Where there is no vision, the people perish.

Ask the Lord today to bless the vision of the Church. To bless our vision spiritually, to bless of visions of future ministries and to bless our visions for the facilities to accomplish our visions and endeavors.

Day Sixteen: Hebrews

13:17

 (Amplified Bible)

17Obey your spiritual leaders and submit to them [continually recognizing their authority over you], for they are constantly keeping watch over your souls and guarding your spiritual welfare, as men who will have to render an account [of their trust]. [Do your part to] let them do this with gladness and not with sighing and groaning, for that would not be profitable to you [either].

Ask the Lord today to bless our spiritual leaders. Pray today for our preachers, teachers, worship leaders and the administrators of our church.

Day Seventeen: Isaiah 61

 1The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

 2To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

3To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

4And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations.

Ask the Lord today to bless our ministries here at New Beginnings and those that we support. Pray for

FreedomHallRecoveryCenter, Sportsmen in Gods Outdoors, K-Force, Nursery Workers, University of New Beginnings, Praise Team and The CrisisPregnancyCenter.

Day Eighteen:  Acts 1

8But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Ask the Lord today to allow New Beginnings Outreach to be a witness for him in this region. Pray that we would be a candle in a dark world and that this area would know that we are a hospital for the hurting allowing us to change the spiritual landscape of this region and the world.

Day Nineteen: Exodus 40:33-35 (Amplified Bible)

33And he erected the court round about the tabernacle and the altar and set up the hanging or screen at the court gate. So Moses finished the work.

34Then the cloud [the Shekinah, God's visible presence] covered the Tent of Meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle!(A)

35And Moses was not able to enter the Tent of Meeting because the cloud remained upon it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.

Ask the Lord today to fill our place of worship with so much of The Power of The Holy Spirit that it would draw people uncontrollably here. That cars would stop as they pass on the highway, that thirsty souls would be drawn here just to get a drink of the Holy Spirit that flows from this Body of Christ.

 Day Twenty:   John 3:16

King James Version (KJV)

16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Amplified Bible (AMP)

16For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten ([a]unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life.

Ask the Lord today to save the lost souls that you have a burden for (friends, family, loved ones, co-workers). Ask him to convict them and draw them to him today in a way they have never been drawn and they would ask them to come into their lives and be saved that the may know the Love of God and not perish in Hell.

Day Twenty One: John 14:12-13 (Amplified Bible)

12I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, if anyone steadfastly believes in Me, he will himself be able to do the things that I do; and he will do even greater things than these, because I go to the Father.

13And I will do [I Myself will grant] whatever you ask in My Name [as [a]presenting all that I AM], so that the Father may be glorified and extolled in (through) the Son.

Philippians

4:13

 (King James Version)

13I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Today ask the Lord to allow you to realize who is in you and the works that you can do because he is in you. Pray today for miracles, healings and deliverances that are out of this world. Today is Miracle Sunday here at church, if you need a miracle in your life pray that it would be released to you this day.

Thank you Lord for keeping us and blessing us through this great experience of fasting, thank you for allowing us to partake of more of you. I Love You!

The Daniel Fast

Daniel 10:2-3

2In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks.

3I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.

Guidelines:

Step 1: Be Specific Daniel was not vague in his objection to the Babylonian diet. He defined the problem immediately.

  1. The king's food was against dietary laws.
  2. Daniel and his friends had vowed against wine.
  3. The king's food had been offered up to idols/demons.

Step 2: Fast as a Spiritual Commitment The Daniel Fast involves a spiritual commitment to God. "Daniel proposed in his heart that he would not defile himself" (Daniel 1:8).

Step 3: Reflect Inner Desire by Outer Discipline Many people have an inner desire for better health, but they can't discipline themselves to avoid junk food, and other foods that are not good for their health. The physical health you seek from God may be more than an answer to prayer. Your physical health can be linked to any of the following factors:

  1. Your food choices.
  2. The level of your spiritual commitment as reflected in constant prayer during the fast.
  3. Your time commitment. If you determine to fast for a certain time, keep it. For example, if you determine to fast 10 days, don't stop on Day 9.
  4. Your testimony commitment. Your fast is a statement of faith to God that you want Him to heal your body, and faith is foundational to the Daniel Fast.

Step 4: Pray to Perceive Sin's Role in Poor Health Notice James 5:13-16:

  • Sin is something related to the cause of sickness.
  • Lack of health/healing may be the result of spiritual rebellion.
  • Lack of health/healing may be due to sin of wrong intake, i.e. drugs, pornography.
  • Repentance is linked to health according to James.
  • Elders have a role in healing both spiritual and physical health.
  • Sick people must desire to be well
  • The anointing oil could mean
    1. Medicine for healing,
    2. Symbolic of the Holy Spirit, or
    3. It could be baptism
  • Prayer alone may not gain healing, faith is the major factor.
  • In Greek there are several words for "sick". James uses "Kanino", which not only includes disease, but also means weak or weary.
  • Attitude is important. James said, "are there any among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms."

Step 5: Fast as a Statement of Faith to Others Daniel was making a statement of faith when he asked for only vegetables to eat and water to drink, then dared the overseer to compare the appearance of the four sons of Israel with the young men who ate the king's food.

Step 6: Learn the Effects of the Food You Eat Why are some foods good for us, and other foods not? What does certain food do to your body? If we really knew, there would likely be some things we would never eat again.

Step 7: Yield All Results to God Daniel said, "as you see fit, deal with your servants" (Dan. 1:13).
